Appointment of Shop Manager
Following a series of interviews, I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Angus Charlton to the post of Shop Manager with effect from 1 May 2018. Angus has been working part-time in the shop since February. He may well be known to many of you from his time managing the bar and catering operations at Findon Manor. Angus brings great experience in customer service, staff and team management, budgetary and stock control; and he also holds a personal alcohol licence. In his first few weeks he will be inducted into his new management responsibilities and we believe he will quickly become a great asset to the business.
Post Office
One of the issues that greatly concerned us in terms of our running costs was the entirely unreasonable contract with Post Office Ltd. Following a series of discussions with their Contracts and management team we have now agreed a reduction of around 40% in the hours that we must cover the PO counter. Although this will mean that the post office is still subsidised, we shall have reduced labour costs significantly.
Smiths News
Our complaints about the consistently poor service from Smiths News, including non-delivery over the Easter period, has resulted in a review of their relationship with us, and we will shortly be having discussions with their management. More news in the next update.
EPOS
I am pleased to report that we have made considerable strides with our till system and are upgrading by adding a hand held scanning device, enabling us to take stock and monitor stock movements much more efficiently.
Volunteers
Following consultation with volunteers working in the shop, Margaret Bamford, Volunteer Coordinator, supported by our trainer, Annie Whitchurch, is working hard to streamline the rotas. Several volunteers have kindly agreed to extend shifts from 2 to 3 hours, enabling Margaret to reduce the number of volunteers needed each day and the volunteers to put their training into practice over a longer shift. They are a fantastic support to the shop. We simply could not operate without them. New recruits are always welcome!
Drinks Cooler
A new drinks cooler fridge has been purchased. Sited behind the counter, it will free up space for more stock in the main display fridges. Ideas and requests for particular items to be stocked are always welcomed. Please don’t be shy in sharing your ideas!
Best Wishes
