I must start by apologising and correcting something I put in last month’s article.  I go on about the wonderful opening hours of our shop and post office, but, apparently, not enough! They are even better than I had thought; closing time is actually 12.30pm on a Sunday, rather than 12pm.  That’s a whole thirty minutes later, which I’m sure will make all the difference to you, after your well-deserved lie-in!  I am now anticipating that 12pm-12.30pm will be the busiest time of the week, as you all go there before tucking into your hearty roast dinner!

Have you seen the latest topper from our very own crafty ladies, Gill and Gay?  They really are both very talented and imaginative – and such attention to detail!  I’ve seen toppers elsewhere, but nothing that begins to compare with what Gill and Gay achieve here.

You might have seen a new face in our post office recently – Sara Clarke.  She is currently learning all there is to know, which is no mean task, I can assure you.  A very big welcome to Sara – she’ll be brilliant!

Volunteering in the shop is great – you get to know people, you keep your brain active, and you know you’re making a valuable contribution to our village life.  There are so many roles as well to fill, enough to suit whatever your skill.  If you’re interested in volunteering, please pop in and have a word with Angus or Helen.

On the subject of volunteering, the Secretary and Treasurer are both in their final term of office.  So, we are looking for some fresh blood on the committee!  If you have either financial or administrative skills and are interested in getting involved, Angus or Helen can tell you who to speak to.

Well, as promised, here’s the second instalment of our PO services.  First off, I’ll tell you about the all-singing, all-dancing multi-currency Travel Money card.   Not that I understand it fully.  But they always say that the best way to learn something is to teach it, so here goes.  It is basically a no-fee debit card that you can load with up to 22 different currencies at a competitive exchange rate, that you can use overseas.  Order it from here, and it’ll be delivered to your home before you could say, “Hurrah for Findon Village Store”.

Of course, if you still want to take cash abroad, we will buy back any paper/plastic currency you have left afterwards (although the exchange rate wouldn’t be quite so good).

We also take returns on Royal Mail and Parcelforce amazon orders.

I’ve left the obvious to last.  You can post letters and packages here, both home and abroad, and discuss things like the difference between ‘Signed For’ and ‘Special Delivery’, and which might be best for you.  Or just get a ‘Certificate of Posting’, of course.  Too much choice, I say.

I hope I haven’t got anything wrong this month …
